Meat
Meat.
I agree with all the non-vegetarians. Meat is very tasty food.
However, we would have to face the truth of how meat is the least energy-efficient food on this planet, for example, beef.
Did you know? In beef, every ‘one’ calorie it provides it, requires around 35 calories of energy to retrieve from the cow. The inefficiency is real. Also since cows consume a lot of water just like any other animal, per 0.5 kg of beef it requires 9,500L of water! And this is said to be 40 times more water needed for the same amount of potato to be made.
Also, think about such products turned over to wastes? As mentioned in the previous post of the significance of human waste, livestock produces massive amounts of waste. With around 5,000,000,000KG of waste produced by livestock per year. Such waste becoming an emission to, VOC’s (volatile organic compounds), hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and endotoxins. All taking the massive cause of global warming.
Getting back on track, it is hard for some of us to become a vegetarian all of a sudden to solve this matter. But there is no need for that. By just eating less than 1 to 2kg of meat every year will save as much water as not showering for a complete year. This equals to 19,000L to 38,000L of water!
Just one day of veggie per week can create a great cause to the environment!
